First Saturdays Market Series Generates Over $5 Million in Local Economic Impact

Last Updated 10/7/2025

Fayetteville Main Street’s First Saturdays Outdoor Market has proven to be more than just a monthly gathering of vendors and visitors—it’s a major economic driver for the community. Based on attendance and spending data, the 2025 market series generated a conservative estimate of $5.5 million in total economic impact for the local economy.

Over the course of seven market events in 2025, total attendance reached approximately 38,500 people, up 21% from 2024, with visitors enjoying local food, shopping, entertainment, and downtown attractions. Using regional economic modeling and tourism benchmarks, estimates show direct visitor spending of $3.3 million, based on average spend per attendee. When factoring in ripple effects throughout the local economy—such as supplier purchases, stops for fuel, and employee household spending, etc.—the total estimated economic impact reaches up to $5.5 million.

“This market is a clear example of how community events strengthen our local economy,” said Aimee Byrd, Executive Director of Fayetteville Main Street. “Beyond the fun and fellowship, First Saturdays help small businesses thrive, attract visitors from across the region, and showcase what makes downtown Fayetteville so special.”

In addition to supporting local merchants and artisans, the event series also contributes to local tax revenues. Based on spending projections, First Saturdays generated an estimated $280,000 in state and local sales taxes during the 2025 season.

Fayetteville Main Street plans to continue growing the event with new themes, expanded vendor offerings, and enhanced family-friendly activities in 2026.
