Meet the Member: Kim Cowdery, Executive Director of the Fayetteville–Lincoln County Senior Center

Kim Cowdery serves as the Executive Director of the Fayetteville–Lincoln County Senior Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and enriching the lives of older adults throughout the community. Under Kim’s leadership, the center offers a wide range of affordable, accessible programs designed to keep seniors active, engaged, and connected.

The Senior Center maintains a full weekly schedule of activities that encourage both physical movement and social interaction. Chair yoga is offered every Monday, with exercise classes held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The most popular activity of the week is Friday bingo, a favorite gathering that brings members together for fun and friendly competition. In addition to weekly programming, members enjoy monthly birthday celebrations, health and legal education opportunities, Medicare and Medicaid guidance, estate planning information, crafts, and a variety of rotating programs throughout the year.

Nutrition services are another vital component of the center’s mission. The South Central Human Resource Agency operates out of the center’s kitchen to provide Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors who are unable to leave their homes. For those who are able to attend in person, congregate meals are served at the center for a suggested donation of $1.50, offering both an affordable meal and a chance for fellowship and conversation.

Membership at the Senior Center is intentionally kept affordable to ensure access for all seniors. Annual membership is just $12, or $1 per month, and includes access to all programs and activities. Kim notes that joining at the beginning of the year provides exceptional value, offering a full year of engagement and services at minimal cost.

For Kim, the most rewarding part of her role is spending time with the seniors themselves. She enjoys hearing their stories, sharing laughter, and building meaningful relationships, often describing the members as family rather than participants.

Community support plays an important role in keeping the center’s programs running smoothly. Those interested in getting involved can sponsor a bingo game, donate bingo prizes, or volunteer to help call bingo on Fridays when needed.

Through connection, care, and community involvement, the Fayetteville–Lincoln County Senior Center remains a welcoming place where seniors can stay active, informed, and connected—thanks in large part to Kim Cowdery’s dedication and heart for service.
