Meet the Member: Dale Kent of the Lincoln County Fairgrounds

For more than a century, the Lincoln County Fair has been a cherished tradition in Fayetteville, and Dale Kent is one of the passionate leaders helping keep that tradition alive. This year marks the 121st year of the Lincoln County Fair, an event that continues to bring families, neighbors, and visitors together for fun, food, and community spirit.

Dale describes himself as “crazy about the fair,” and it shows. He looks forward to it all year long and loves sharing the excitement and history with others. For Dale, one of the most rewarding parts of being involved is meeting new people and seeing the smiles on kids’ faces as they experience the fair.

Visitors return year after year for many reasons, but two fan favorites are Mr. Quick’s ice cream and the classic funnel cakes. These fair staples are part of the experience that keeps people coming back generation after generation.

The Lincoln County Fair also offers unique traditions you won’t find everywhere. One standout attraction is harness horse racing, and the Lincoln County Fair is currently the only fair in Tennessee that still hosts this historic event. Along with harness racing, visitors enjoy the midway rides, exciting jump-and-run races, and the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life.

Some of Dale’s personal favorite things about the fair include the rides, chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream, harness racing, meeting new people, and watching the jump-and-run races.

While the fair is the centerpiece of the fairgrounds, the property is used for much more throughout the year. The fairgrounds host events like Trunk or Treat, community gatherings, and offer buildings that can be rented for fundraisers and other events that support local organizations.

Dale joined Fayetteville Main Street because he believes in staying connected to the community and supporting efforts that strengthen Fayetteville. By working together with other organizations, the goal is to make sure the fairgrounds continue to be a place where people gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories.

After more than 120 years, the Lincoln County Fair remains one of Fayetteville’s most beloved traditions—and thanks to people like Dale Kent, that tradition will continue for generations to come.
